Dr. Edith D. de Leeuw is appointed as MOA professor in survey methodology
at the Department of Methodology and Statistics of the Faculty of Social
and Behavioural Sciences of University of Utrecht.
On Wednesday, 2 December 2009 at 4.15 p.m. she intends to accept the MOA
chair in survey data quality, by delivering an inaugural speech entitled
To Fit and Measure: Quality of Online Research.
All interested are cordially invited to attend this ceremony, which will take place in the Auditorium of the Academiegebouw, Domplein 29, city centre of Utrecht the Netherlands. A reception will be held afterwards in the Senaatszaal
September 2009: The first comprehensive masters program in Applied Statistics in the Netherlands starts in Leiden, September 2009: Statistical Science for the Life and Behavioral Sciences. Courses will be given by researchers in applied and theoretical statistics from faculties of science (including bio- and life-sciences), medicine and psychology in Leiden, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Wageningen. Statistical Science is a track within the Masters program Mathematics in Leiden, but students from various backgrounds with a Bachelor degree may apply. He's hoping to attract many followers from inside and outside the society
(outside: science journlists, fellow statisticians around the world).
He's also looking for a person to be @dutchor. The VVS-OR is also present at LinkedIn as two groups,'VVS-OR' and 'NGB'.
On tuesday April 7 Professor Roel van Strik passed away. Together with Henk de Jonge and Chris Rumke, Roel van Strik was one of the pioneers of medical statistics in the Netherlands. Roel has been of major importance for the development and promotion of medical statistics in the Netherlands. From 1973 till 1996 he was professor Biostatistics at the Medical Faculty Rotterdam, later the Erasmus MC. During this period he was very active within VVS (Dutch Statistical Society), the IBS (International Biometric Society) and the ISCB (International Society of Clinical Biostatistics). Among other things he was president of the Medical Biological Section of the VVS, president of ANed (Dutch region of the IBS) and president of the ISCB. Roel was 82 years old.
